A note on scope

Setnova Advisory LLC is not an investment adviser and is not registered as one.

The firm works on measurement, method and governance. It does not exercise discretion over any portfolio, take custody of, hold or have access to any client asset, or have assets under management. It does not recommend, select, rank or identify securities, issuers, maturities, counterparties or transactions; advise on the value of securities or on the advisability of investing in, purchasing, selling, holding, retaining, reinvesting in, replacing, extending, shortening or rebalancing any security or maturity exposure, or on the timing of any such action; construct portfolios or recommend sectors, allocations or asset classes; execute, arrange or introduce trades; or recommend, structure, arrange or execute hedges or derivative transactions. Every such decision stays with your institution.

The Treasury Desk

“Where did this number come from?”

It is the question that stops an ALCO meeting cold, and almost no institution can answer it quickly. The analysis is rarely the problem. The problem is that the numbers in your board pack live across several systems, a few spreadsheets and someone’s memory.

The Treasury Desk carries provenance with every figure — the source system, the report, the as-of date, the owner, the method, and what it reconciles to. Click any number below and see where it came from.

Every figure above is drawn from an illustrative sample institution (~$2.75B) and does not come from any client. This is a static snapshot of the sample extract of 25 August 2026; nothing on this page updates. Captions describe the direction of change only; whether a change is favourable is your institution’s judgment against its own limits, not the Desk’s. Totals and ratios are recomputed from their parts; the other figures are taken as stated from their system of record. Assumptions, sources and methods are shown per figure; results are hypothetical and do not represent any institution’s actual or expected performance.

Complimentary · every weekday morning

The Treasury Morning Brief.

A daily read of the tape written for deposit-funded balance sheets — where the curve moved, what funding is costing, and what the day’s levels mean across deposit-funded balance sheets generally. Free and with no obligation: one email each weekday morning, once public distribution opens.

  • Rates and the curve — policy, SOFR, the Treasury curve and the slopes, each figure carrying its own observation date rather than one date pasted across all of them.
  • Funding and the deposit market — top national CD and savings levels, wholesale indications quoted by tenor, each with its own observation date and source.
  • Sector conditions — general commentary on funding, investment and interest-rate conditions across deposit-funded balance sheets. Written for the sector and identical for every reader; it does not address any subscriber’s own position.
  • Banking and regulatory watch — dated items with the agency named, and proposed, final and effective kept apart.
Send me the brief

The button opens the sign-up page on beehiiv, the service that delivers the brief. You will be asked to confirm your email address. Public distribution has not started yet. Each issue is being checked independently before it goes to subscribers; your first issue arrives when distribution opens.

One email each weekday morning, with an unsubscribe link in every issue. Your address is used to send the brief and nothing else: never sold or rented, and held only by beehiiv, the email service that delivers it. The brief is one-way; replies about a specific institution’s position are not answered.

Every subscriber receives the identical issue. The list is never segmented by content and the brief is never tailored to a particular institution’s position — if you want that, it is an engagement, not a newsletter.

What I do

The Desk is the product. This is the work around it.

Start with a low-risk diagnostic and grow into whatever fits — a scoped project, an ongoing retainer, or building your team’s own capability.

Start here

Balance-Sheet Health Check

A two-to-four week diagnostic across IRR (EVE/NEV), liquidity, and your ALCO process. The real output is the mapping: where every number in your board pack actually comes from. You keep it.

Measurement

ALM & interest-rate risk

Model review and modernization, assumption and beta back-testing, and ALCO and exam materials with every assumption, source and as-of date documented and traceable. As a matter of firm policy I do not validate models I built or materially customised, and do not present such work as independent validation.

Measurement

Liquidity & funding

Contingency funding plans, FHLB and backup-line readiness, deposit and share pricing frameworks, and stress testing with every assumption documented.

Capability

Treasury AI enablement

Stand up an AI-assisted treasury workflow — morning briefs, ALCO materials assembly and provenance, scenario analysis — with a governance playbook and hands-on training for your team.

Retainer

Desk + standing support

The Desk licensed with a monthly working session, a quarterly deep-dive, and a same-business-day response target. The response target covers speed, not unlimited scope.

Limited availability

Fractional Treasurer

Outsourced treasury support on reserved time: process, documentation, governance, and board and exam preparation. I do not hold an officer role, do not chair or vote at ALCO, and do not make or approve balance-sheet decisions; final authority stays with a named officer of your institution. One or two institutions at a time.

Payments

Payment rails & program strategy

Which rails you run, what each one actually costs you, and what it does to your balance sheet. Rail selection and economics across ACH, wires, RTP, FedNow, and card; instant-payments launch readiness; and strategy for sponsor-bank and embedded-finance programs — from partner diligence and program economics through the operational and liquidity questions examiners ask second.

Payments decisions are usually made on processor pricing alone. They belong in the same conversation as float, intraday liquidity, and deposit behavior — which is where I put them.

How it works

Low-risk to start, built to last.

Step 1

Discovery call

A focused conversation about where the balance sheet — and the board — are applying pressure.

Step 2

Health Check

A fixed-fee diagnostic with a findings memo, a prioritized roadmap, and the mapping.

Step 3

Do the work

A scoped project or an ongoing retainer, priced by outcome rather than by the hour.

Step 4

Leave you stronger

Your team keeps the playbook, the mapping, and the capability after I step back; the Desk continues under its license for as long as you want it.

Confidence in the numbers

Production can be fast. Verification cannot be skipped.

This standard governs the figures and documents I produce. They pass through a written verification standard: one canonical data object, automated cross-checks on every build, two separate review passes against that standard — one on the work and one on the reviewer, run by AI under my direction — and a standing log of the classes of error it has caught.

Institutions under model-risk and third-party governance pressure are right to ask how AI-assisted work gets checked. The standard itself is a document I can hand you, and it is part of what you are buying.

Engagements are scoped and priced before the work starts — a fixed fee, not an hourly rate.

About

Peter Martin, founder of Setnova Advisory

Peter Martin

I’ve spent my career in treasury, on both sides of the bank relationship. Most recently as Treasurer of a publicly traded regional bank, owning the ALM model end to end, wholesale funding, liquidity, and an investment and derivatives portfolio. Before that, from the other chair: treasury for a public company, for structured-finance funds, for a private equity platform, and for a payments fintech. For a good stretch of it I was the bank’s customer rather than the bank.

I started Setnova Advisory to bring that level of treasury capability to community banks and credit unions that need it but can’t justify a full-time Treasurer or a big-vendor contract.

The mix is deliberate. Sitting inside a bank teaches you how the ALCO pack actually gets built and what the examiner asks first. Sitting across from one teaches you how a bank’s decisions land on the people who bank there — a useful thing to have felt. Community banks and credit unions are where those two halves meet, and where this work fits most naturally.
